American Express Global Assist

Eligibility

Covered person is eligible for emergency ‘International Medical and Travel Assistance’ when he/she travels outside the Home Country or Usual Country of Residence for periods not exceeding 90 consecutive days per trip.

Medical Expense Guarantee, Cost Review and Payment, Medical Monitoring

When hospitalization is required during travel, American Express Global Assist® offers support by:

  1. Guaranteeing medical expenses (subject to prior payment authorization via the Cardmember’s credit card or family funds)

  2. Monitoring the Cardmember’s condition in coordination with the hospital’s attending physician (subject to consent and confidentiality rules)

  3. Reviewing medical costs to ensure they are customary, reasonable, and aligned with the local standard of care
     

Note:
All related expenses are charged to the Cardmember’s American Express account.

 

Medical Evacuation and Repatriation

In the event of a medical emergency while traveling, American Express Global Assist® will:

  • Arrange air or ground transportation to the nearest suitable medical facility

  • Provide communication support and language assistance during the evacuation

  • Facilitate the return to the Cardmember’s home country after hospitalization abroad

  • Arrangement of Hospital Admission

  • Travel Arrangement Including Accommodation for Visiting Family Member

  • Emergency Hotel Arrangement

  • Assist in transmitting urgent messages to the Covered Person’s family, friends, or business contacts

  • If a Covered Person is medically evacuated, dependent children will be returned home via one-way economy class transportation.

  • If evacuation causes a travelling companion’s ticket to become invalid, one-way transportation to the Covered Person’s home country will be arranged.

  • If the companion requests return to another location, travel will still be arranged to the home country, with any additional cost borne by the Covered Person.

  • If transferred between hospitals (excluding local transfers), one travelling companion or family member may accompany the Covered Person.

  • Arrange for the transportation of mortal remains to the Covered Person’s Home Country or Usual Country of Residence, or

  • Coordinate a local burial at the place of death, if requested by the family (subject to local regulations)

  • If a Covered Person needs to return home urgently due to the death of an immediate family member (father, mother, parent-in-law, legal spouse, child, brother, or sister), American Express Global Assist® will arrange travel and purchase an economy class ticket for early return to the Home Country or Usual Country of Residence

  • Provide support if the Cardmember’s existing ticket does not allow for an earlier return

  • When medical support is needed, American Express Global Assist® offers 24/7 access to medical advice over the phone

  • Arrangement of Medical Appointment
     

Note:

  1. Costs for accommodation, meals, and other expenses are the responsibility of the family member

  2. All related expenses will be charged to the Covered Person’s American Express credit card

  3. No medical diagnosis or treatment is provided directly by American Express

  1. While care is taken in referring medical providers, quality of care cannot be guaranteed

  2. Final choice of medical provider rests with the Covered Person
     

Legal Assistance

American Express Global Assist will provide the Covered Persons with the name, address, telephone numbers, if requested by the Covered Person and if available, office hours for referred lawyers and legal practitioners. American Express Global Assist will not give any legal advice to the Covered Person.

  • Lawyer Referrals: Contact details of local legal professionals provided upon request (no legal advice given).

  • Advance of Legal Fees: Up to US$10,000 for lawyer fees if jailed due to a traffic incident (with prior authorization).

  • Bail Bond: Up to US$10,000 for conditional release abroad (subject to payment guarantee via credit card or family).

  • Get real-time visa and vaccination requirements anytime, based on WHO and ABC travel guides

  • Access contact info and hours for the nearest embassy or consulate

  • Receive referrals for interpreters and translators, including estimated costs

  • Get support connecting with authorities if luggage or personal items are lost abroad

  • Arrange emergency cash delivery if travel documents are lost or access to funds is limited

Referral of American Express Travel Service Offices (TSO)

American Express Global Assist shall provide to Covered Person the address, telephone number and hours of opening of the nearest American Express Travel Services Offices.

  • Cash Access Inquiry (American Express Card ATMs)

  • American Express Global Assist shall provide to the Covered Person the locations of the nearest ATMs.

  • Access to American Express Selects Offers

  • American Express Selects shall provide to Covered Person information on the Selects Offers and names of the participating merchants.
